    • (a) For both BOD and EXP, the transition dipole moment vectors are parallel to the long molecular axis. The center-to-center separation distances can be conveniently represented by the distances between the meso-carbon atoms in donor and acceptor. The computed orientation factors are small and probably underestimated by this point charge method. It has been shown, however, that reasonable estimates for the Coulombic coupling element can be obtained for related structures (see ref 66b), although the transition density cube method might be more appropriate (see ref 66c).
