David A. B. Miller (Fellow, IEEE) received the B.Se. degree from St. Andrews University, Scotland, L.K., and the Ph.D. degree from Heriot-Watt University, Scotland, in 1979. He worked at Bcli Laboratories from 198 S to 1996, being a Department Head from 1987, latterly of the Advanced Photonics Research Department. He is currently the W. M. Keck Foundation Professor of electrical engineering at Stanford University, Stanford, CA, and Director of the Ginzton and Solid State and Photonies Laboratories. His research interests include quantum-well optoelectronic physics and devices and fundamentals and applications of optics in information witching and processing. He has published more than 200 scientific papers and has received 40 patents.Prof. Miller is a Fellow of the Royal Society of London, OSA, and APS. He received an honorary degree from Vrije Univenteit Brüssel, Belgium. He has served as a Board Member for both OSA.
