    • Intron status and 3′-end formation control cotranscriptional export of mRNA
    • The authors demonstrate that the mRNA export factor Yra1p is recruited co-transcriptionally but requires the splicing process for intron-containing mRNA and accurate 3′-end formation for all mRNA. These experiments show that splicing and 3′-end formation enhance the export process and also suggest that this mRNA export factor recruitment allows for export exclusively of properly processed transcripts

    • Evidence for nonsense-associated alternative splicing is presented. A tRNA-scanning-dependent mechanism switches the splicing machinery on the T cell receptor mRNA to avoid production of transcripts with the nonsense mutation. Therefore, a reading frame recognition mechanism exists for certain transcripts to modulate splicing in order to produce corrected transcripts
