    • Endomembrane trafficking of ras: The CAAX motif targets proteins to the ER and Golgi
    • Although it had been known that Ras proteins required the CAAX motif and a second signal in the hypervariable region to be properly localized at the plasma membrane, this work shows that the CAAX motif alone is sufficient to localize protein to the endomembrane system, and the second signal in the Ras hypervariable region is required for transit to the plasma membrane. It was also shown that H-Ras and K-Ras4B take slightly different routes to the plasma membrane

    • Although it has been thought that Rap1 antagonizes Ras signaling, this report indicates that extracellular signals that activate Ras also activate Rap1.
