Research Designs

Author keywords

Component investigation: The identification or confirmation through research of steps (procedural models) and factors (conceptual models) critical to the instructional design process.; Design and development research: Research that seeks to create knowledge grounded in data systematically derived from practice and based upon a systematic analysis of specific cases.; Experiment: A design that involves the comparison of one treatment to another, using two or more different groups.; External validity: The degree to which the results of an experiment can be generalized to other settings.; In program learner behaviors: Measures of learner activities and outcomes while engaged in an instructional task.; Instructional strategies: The prescribed sequences and methods of instruction to achieve a learning objective.; Internal validity: The degree to which the results of a study can be attributed to the treatment rather than extraneous or confounding variables.; Log files: A sequence of behavioral data stored in a permanent file, offering time or location stamped records of human choices made through computer interfaces with learning environments.; Mixed methods research: Studies that combine qualitative and quantitative data collection methods.; Model research: Research that addresses the validity or effectiveness of an existing or newly constructed development model, process, or technique.; Model validation: Experiments, quasi experiments, interviews, and expert reviews that are used for verification and evaluation of a particular design and development technique.; Open ended learning environment: Instructional projects based, to varying degrees, on constructivist principles in which learners self discover concepts and principles while engaged in authentic learning tasks.; Qualitative research: Research that emphasizes verbal descriptions or narrative accounts of observed or recorded events.; Quasi experiment: An experimental design in which participants are not randomly assigned to treatments.; Technology enhanced learning environments: Technology based learning and instructional systems through which students acquire skills or knowledge, usually with the help of teachers or facilitators, learning support tools, and technological resources.; Tool research: The research based design and development of products and tools to enhance learning.
