    • Kai-Larsen Y, Luthje P, Chromek M et al. Uropathogenic Escherichia coli modulates immune responses and its curli fimbriae Executive summary.. Human cathelicidin LL-37 is a multifunctional peptide and the only described cathelicidin found in humans... Antimicrobial effects of LL-37 have been shown against a range of bacteria, virus and fungi, although recently the immune stimulatory effects of LL-37 have been argued to be the most prominent and important biological function for this peptide... LL-37 prevents biofilm formation at sub-inhibitory concentrations, which assists the human defence system in its constant struggle against bacterial infections... The use of LL-37 and LL-37-derived peptides could be of tremendous value in controlling and reducing biofilm development in multiple clinical settings... Future perspectives indicate the promising effects of LL-37 and LL-37-derived peptides in therapy, as peptides with lower toxicity, lower production cost, higher stability and retained antibiofilm efficacy have been designed. However, understanding how these peptides control biofilm development is essential for driving this research one step further and delivering novel potent antibiofilm peptide candidates for clinical testing. interact with the antimicrobial peptide LL-37.
