Recently a donor (mesityl)-acceptor (acridinium ion) directly linked dyad has been reported to exhibit the longest lifetime of the charge-separated state (2 h at 203 K) with a high quantum yield (98%) in donor-acceptor linked systems. No π conjugation between the donor and acceptor moieties due to the perpendicular orientation may be responsible for formation of the long-lived charge-separated state with the high quantum yield; see: S.
