    • Kato Z, Jee J, Shikano H, et al.: The structure and binding mode of interleukin-18. Nat Struct Biol 2003, 10:966-971. This study determined the solution structure of IL-18 by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and mutagenesis studies, and showed that the mode of interaction between IL-18 and IL-18Rα is similar to that seen in the IL-1β/IL-1Rα binary complex. It also demonstrated residues in the structure of IL-18 that are important for binding IL-18Rβ to the binary complex.
