    • We note that at the time this manuscript was being reviewed, Wayner and co-workers reported their independent study of photochemical preparation of carboxy-terminated monolayers from the reaction between undecylenic acid and hydrogen terminated silicon (Voicu, R.; Boukherroub, R.; Bartzoka, V.; Ward, T.; Wojtyk, J. T. C.; Wayner, D. D. M. Langmuir 2004, 20, 11713-11720). In contrast to the kinetic studies reported herein, their paper was focused on the patterning and immobilization of DNA on silicon via simple surface activation reactions. It is different in nature but adds to the field that our work also strengthens.
