    • Development of spontaneous airway changes consistent with human asthma in mice lacking T-bet
    • Mice with a selective gene disruption of T-bet spontaneously developed airway hyperreactivity, eosinophil and lymphocyte infiltration of the lungs, periairway collagen deposition, and increased levels of IL-4 and IL-13 in bronchial alveolar lavage fluid. This raises the possibility that T-bet might serve as a disease-modifying gene in human asthma

    • In vitro generation of interleukin 10-producing regulatory CD4(+) T cells is induced by immunosuppressive drugs and inhibited by T helper type 1 (Th1)- and Th2-inducing cytokines
    • + T cells that preferentially produced IL-10, but neither Th1 or Th2 cytokines, were generated from naïve cells by priming in the presence of immunosuppressive drugs (glucocorticoids and 1,25(OH)2-vitamin D3 and antibodies that neutralize both Th1 and Th2 cytokines). This suggests the potential for certain forms of immunosuppression to induce regulatory T cell populations in vivo that might useful in suppressing Th2 disease (see [41••])
