    • Based on recent work by Amiens and co-workers, the Fe nanoparticles are also anticipated to contain significant amounts of boron (which is difficult to detect by EDX analysis). These workers showed that treatment of Fe(II) salts with amine-boranes led to Fe nanoparticles containing 15-25% B based on EXAFS and Mössbauer spectroscopy. Mechanisms of formation involving the reactions with aminoborane intermediates or products at the nanoparticle nucleation stage or with the Fe nanoparticles themselves were proposed
