J. Biol. Chem. (2003) 278:46461-46472. The authors describe in the nicest and most complete way the only available study about systematic comparison between the repertoire of epitopes associated to a defined HLA class I molecule when it is expressed in human or in mouse cells. Moreover, through in vitro assays with purified proteasomes and complementation through gene transfections, the authors describe some of the steps in the antigen processing pathway that restrict antigen presentation in a species-specific manner.
