J Neurosci 1996, 16:1710-1718. Many interesting points: prolonged postmortem delay (more than 6. 5 h) increases background TUNEL staining; c-Jun immunoreactivity is increased in Alzheimer's disease and colocalizes with TUNEL staining (despite the authors' claim, TUNEL positive neurons do not have the classic apoptotic morphology); general regional correlation of TUNEL staining with Alzheimer's disease pathology. The large numbers of TUNEL positive and c-Jun positive neurons are puzzling.
