The ABCs of granule-mediated cytotoxicity: New weapons in the arsenal
-
An excellent recent review summarizing the similarities/differences in the mechanisms of granule-mediated cytotoxicity utilized by granzymes A, B and C, with special emphasis on the caspase-independent pathways of cell death. This paper also discusses the contributions of the various effector mechanisms of cell death in different disease processes, such as GVHD

The genes for perforin, granzymes A-C and IFN-gamma are differentially expressed in single CD8(+) T cells during primary activation
-
This paper challenges the dogma that all cytotoxic cells are armed with both perforin and several granzymes. Using single-cell RT-PCR, this paper presents data to suggest that individual cells express diverse combinations of perforin and granzymes. If additional studies confirm these results using granzyme-specific reagents, these results may imply an additional level of control of cytotoxicity at the cellular level.
