This is a well-designed study investigating the role of PARP-1 in mucosal barrier dysfunction of the small intestine in rat endotoxic shock. It is shown that the PARP-1 inhibitor 3-aminobenzamide reduces the damage elicited in the gut by endotoxin, thereby preventing the development of bacterial translocation to mesenteric lymph nodes.
