    • Myosin II is thought to be a crucial component of a 'contractile ring' during cytokinesis. The results presented question the concept of a 'contractile ring', the function of myosin II for its formation, and the necessity of such a structure for force generation during cytokinesis in general. An alternative mechanism for force production during cytokinesis is discussed.

    • The function of GTPase activating proteins (GAPs) is still not well understood. • Role of a new Rho family member in cell migration and axon guidance in C. elegans
    • Most analyses of Rho GTPases have used activated or dominant-negative mutants introduced as transgenes. This report is the first loss-of-function analysis of a Rho protein (MIG2) in a multicellular organism and supports a role for MIG2 in actin-mediated cell migration. A less severe phenotype is observed in animals with null-mutations than in those with gain-of-function mutations, suggesting both that other Rho family members may compensate for MIG2 loss and that activated mig2 alleles may cross-inhibit other Rho pathways.
