Inducible site-specific recombination in the brain
-
The authors compare various ligand-dependent Cre recombinases in cultured mammalian cells and demonstrate the feasibility of ligand-activated recombination in the brain of transgenic mice expressing an RU486-activated Cre recombinase. Potential problems of ligand-activated recombination strategies and of strain validation using reporter mice are discussed.

The prokaryotic β-recombinase catalyzes site-specific recombination in mammalian cells
-
This paper describes the bacterial β-recombinase as a new tool for recombination-assisted manipulation of eukaryotic genomes. The authors show that this site-specific recombinase promotes the deletion of chromosomal DNA flanked by directly repeated six recognition sites in cultured mammalian cells.
