This study identified γδ T cells as the primary source of IL-17 in M. bovis-infected lungs, and IL-17 expression was shown to be dependent on IL-23. The data also suggested that induction of optimal Th1 responses and protective immunity against mycobacterial infections is dependent on IL-17.
