Nature Neurosci. 8, 1667-1676 (2005). This study demonstrated that activation of CA3 axons in a single burst can lead to LTP that is induced by a single dendritic spike - no action-potential firing is required. This might be an important cellular mechanism for rapid information storage.

A cooperative switch determines the sign of synaptic plasticity in distal dendrites of neocortical pyramidal neurons
