    • Increased vaccine efficacy against tuberculosis of recombinant Mycobacterium bovis bacille Calmette-Guerin mutants that secrete listeriolysin
    • The authors equipped an urease C-deficient BCG with the membrane-perforating listeriolysin of Listeria monocytogenes. This recombinant BCG shows improved protection against M. tuberculosis, including a hypervirulent strain of the 'Beijing/W' family. Listeriolysin not only promotes antigen translocation into the cytoplasm but also apoptosis of infected macrophages, which leads to crosspresentation of mycobacterial antigens and subsequently enhanced T cell-mediated immunity.
