Combined dendritic cell- and CpG oligonucleotide-based immune therapy cures large murine tumors that resist chemotherapy
-
note

Heckelsmiller K, Beck S, Rall K, Sipos B, Schlamp A, Tuma E, Rothenfusser S, Endres S, Hartmann G: Combined dendritic cell- and CpG oligonucleotide-based immune therapy cures large murine tumors that resist chemotherapy. Eur J Immunol (2002) 32(11):3235-3245. A combination of peritumoral injections of CpG ODN with tumor-distant application of antigen-pulsed DC plus CpG ODN enabled the immune system to reject large, standard therapy-resistant, solid tumors in a CD8 T-cell-dependent manner.

Established human papillomavirus type 16-expressing tumors are effectively eradicated following vaccination with long peptides

Zwaveling S, Ferreira Mota SC, Nouta J, Johnson M, Lipford GB, Offringa R, Van Der Burg SH, Melief CJ: Established human papillomavirus type 16-expressing tumors are effectively eradicated following vaccination with long peptides. J Immunol (2002) 169(1):350-358. Vaccinations with the HPV16-derived 35-amino-acid-long peptide E7, containing both a CTL epitope and a Th epitope, admixed with the dendritic cell-activating adjuvant CpG DNA resulted in the eradication of large, established HPV16-expressing tumors.

Vaccination with tumor peptide in CpG adjuvant protects via IFN-γ-dependent CD4 cell immunity
-
note
-
Stern BV, Boehm BO, Tary-Lehmann M: Vaccination with tumor peptide in CpG adjuvant protects via IFN-γ-dependent CD4 cell immunity. J Immunol (2002) 168(12):6099-6105. Immunization with the tumor-specific peptide H11.1, using an immunostimulatory CpG oligonucleotide as adjuvant, led to a 25-fold increase in clonal, Th1-polarized CD4 cells compared with immunization without adjuvant. CpG DNA functioned as a stronger Th1 adjuvant that CFA and, unlike CFA, elicited protective, IFNγ-dependent immunity.
