J Immunol (2003) 170(9):4665-4672. This study demonstrates that lung T-lymphocytes co-stimulated by airway macrophages are capable of releasing IL-17 and that endogenous IL-17 may play a central role in mediating endotoxin-induced neutrophil accumulation via MIP-2 and IL-6 in the lungs. The study also demonstrates the potentially beneficial effect of blocking IL-17 on the accumulation of lung neutrophils.
