    • Many of these noble metal preparations have withstood the test of time and are still prevelant and practised by many. References on the use of gold for medicinal purposes also exist in the Chinese literature, and it was thought to act as the elixir of life [References exist in a book titled Handbook of Prescription of Emergencies authored by Ko Hung (Tsin dynasty, 265-419 AD)]. However, many of such treatments are not considered reliable or safe by modern medical practitioners as they contain substantial quantities of heavy metals and involve strict dietary regulations to be followed by the patient. Also, success of the treatment is mostly based on individual preference and their testimonies. Often, such testimonies may not be verifiable accurately by the principles of modern medicine. The unique properties offered by noble metal QCs are currently being studied and exploited in a range of potential applications in biology.
