3 gave averaged signals for the 1a unit, indicating that exchange between guest-free 1a·2a and free 1a is fast on the NMR time scale. In contrast, upon addition of 1 equiv of 11 to this mixture, 11@(1a·2a) and free 1a were independently observed in a 1:1 mole ratio. This result indicates that exchange between 11@(1a·2a) and free 1a is slow on the NMR time scale. Thus, 1a·2a is stabilized upon guest encapsulation.
