Am J Pathol 2008; 172:1471-1481. This paper is important because it contains the first detailed report of the pathology of rejection of GalT KO solid organs in the pig-to-primate model. It provides valuable insights into the mechanisms behind the development of thrombotic microangiopathy, which is currently the major cause of failure of vascularized xenografts. (Pubitemid 351793341)

Transplantation 2007; 84:244-250. The interest in this paper is in the large number of naïve human serum samples tested and the great variation that was observed in anti-non-GalT antibody titres and in the ability of individual sera to activate GalT KO endothelial cells. This situation may add to the unpredictability likely to be faced with clinical xenotransplantation and suggests the need for rigorous pretesting of human recipients. (Pubitemid 47205759)
