Cardiac benefits of fish consumption may depend on the type of fish meal consumed: The Cardiovascular Health Study
-
Mozaffarian D, Lemaitre RN, Kuller LH, et al. Cardiac benefits of fish consumption may depend on the type of fish meal consumed: the Cardiovascular Health Study. Circulation 2003; 107:1372-1377. This prospective cohort study showed that modest consumption of tuna or other broiled or baked fish is associated with lower risk of arrhythmic death. They seperately examined associations of fried fish/fish sandwich consumption and even found some trends toward higher risk of ischemic heart disease.

Rationale and design of a randomised controlled clinical trial on supplemental intake of n-3 fatty acids and incidence of cardiac arrhythmia: SOFA
-
Brouwer IA, Zock PL, Wever EF, et al. Rationale and design of a randomised controlled clinical trial on supplemental intake of n-3 fatty acids and incidence of cardiac arrhythmia: SOFA. Eur J Clin Nutr 2003; 57:1323-1330. This article describes the design of a multicenter trial with fish oil in patients who have had an automatic defibrillator implanted into their chest because of their high risk of sudden death from arrhythmia. The defibrillator records the occurrence of arrhythmic events throughout the 1-year intervention period.
