Abnormal kidney function as a cause and a consequence of obesity hypertension
-
Hall JE, Brands MW, Henegar JR, Shek EW: Abnormal kidney function as a cause and a consequence of obesity hypertension. Clin Exp Pharmacol Physiol 1998; 25:58-64. This review summarizes the mechanisms by which obesity causes hypertension and provides evidence that the renal sympathetic nerves mediate much of the increase in blood pressure associated with a long-term high-fat diet.

Mark AL, Correia M, Morgan DA, Shaffer RA, Haynes WG: Obesity-induced hypertension: New concepts from the emerging biology of obesity. Hypertension 1999, 33(part II):537-541. This review focuses on the neurobiology of obesity and suggests that the effect of weight gain to increase blood pressure is critically dependent on genetic background and leptin-mediated sympathetic activation.
