    • Rb interacts with histone deacetylase to repress transcription
    • 1 arrest by the retinoblastoma protein (RB). RB can repress the activity of the E2F1 transcription factor by recruiting the HDAC complex to the promoter. In this study, it is shown that RB can repress only a subset of promoters via deacetylase activity, so this is only one of the mechanisms of repression. The importance of HDAC binding to RB, however, is highlighted by the fact that rival oncoproteins can dissociate RB from HDAC.

    • ••] have demonstrated the importance of the HDAC complex in leukaemia. They provide evidence that the PML-RARα and PL2F-RARα translocations found in AMLs are inducing the suppression of differentiation by recruiting the HDAC complex to RARα-regulated genes. Retinoic acid can mediate remission of dissociating HDAC from PML-RARα.
