    • Qualitative and quantitative contributions of the T cell receptor zeta chain to mature T cell apoptosis
    • of special interest. This study examined the importance of ζ-chain ITAMs in promoting mature T cell apoptosis using IL-2 receptor α (Tac)-ζ chimeric molecules and transgenic mice in which the ζ-variant molecules were substituted for the endogenous ζ chain. The ζ chain, while not absolutely required, was especially effective at promoting apoptosis as compared with the CD3 chains, and the individual ζ-chain ITAMs exhibited differences in their ability to trigger apoptosis.
