The dynamics of molecular evolution over 60,000 generations
-
This study is a recent analysis of long-term laboratory evolution of E. coli by Lenski and colleagues. The coexistence of multiple sub-populations is demonstrated, indicating an important role for ecological interactions among them. Epistatic interactions and historical contingencies among mutations are also discussed.

Time-programmable drug dosing allows the manipulation, suppression and reversal of antibiotic drug resistance in vitro
-
This study demonstrated that drug resistance evolution can be manipulated by dynamically changing the drug dosage. Using a morbidostat culture system, they show that a switching between certain combinations of drugs can suppress the evolution of antibiotic resistance. Furthermore, a simple mathematical model was developed that allows for the prediction of the development of resistance under modulating antibiotic concentrations.

The principles of whole-cell modeling

This review discusses an importance of whole-cell modeling of organisms, which involves various cellular functions as genome replication, transcription, translation, and metabolism. This approach might contribute to predicting and control of resistant evolution.
