Results indicate that patients with severe CAP fail to mount a local pro-inflammatory response but exhibit instead a more substantial systemic inflammatory response.

Major importance: this is a meta-analysis that did not find a benefit with the inclusion of corticosteroids in the treatment of CAP in adults, but it was very heterogeneous and not restricted to severe CAP.

Major importance: this randomized multicenter study compared seven days of prednisone with a placebo in adult patients hospitalized with CAP and concluded that prednisone shortens time to clinical stability without an increase in complications.
