However, the yield of this tandem reduction (51  %) was lower than the yield of the analogous tandem reduction of the (more) reactive epoxy alcohol anti- 10 (→ syn- 13; Scheme 1, reaction c), which proceeded in 83 % yield. This yield might result from the greater steric hindrance in the trialkoxyaluminate intermediate 12 compared with iso- 12.
