Implementation of guidelines for management of possible multidrug-resistant pneumonia in intensive care: An observational, multicentre cohort study
-
Improving Medicine through Pathway Assessment of Critical Therapy of Hospital-Acquired Pneumonia (IMPACT-HAP) Investigators. In this recent article the authors investigated the relationship between guideline compliance and outcomes for patients in intensive care with multidrug-resistant pneumonia. Among 303 patients, 129 were treated according to current guidelines. Survival rate was significantly lower in the compliance group. The main reason for compliance failure was nonuse of dual treatment for Gram-negative pathogens

In this well matched cohort study it was observed that patients with H1N1-related severe ARDS who were referred and transferred to an ECMO center presented a lower hospital mortality rate than non-ECMO-referred patients. This article reinforces the usefulness of ECMO technology in severe ARDS patients
