    • An alternative strategy involving a fluorescently labeled diaminocarboxylic acid residue within the peptide sequence was also investigated. 4-DMNA (see ref. [3c]) was synthesized and was compatible with our standard macrocyclization conditions as an amino acid or within a dipeptide. Synthesis of larger peptides incorporating the 4-DMNA residue requires cumbersome orthogonal protection strategies. See the Supporting Information for details.: K. L. Horton, K. M. Stewart, S. B.
