    • To be precise, the common Ru-based olefin-metathesis catalysts should be called precatalysts: Compounds that are well-characterized, and that under some conditions will catalyse the metathesis of olefins, but that have not been proven to be essentially identical to the active species for the metathesis reaction, are not well-defined catalysts. They are catalyst precursors, or (pre)catalysts. R. R. Schrock, J. Mol. Catal. A 2004, 213, 21-30.

    • Lamaty and co-workers studied the metathesis of some soluble poly(ethylene glycol)-supported dienes in water. Although the RCM reaction required 50 mol% of 2a, it led to the clean formation of the expected cyclic product without the addition of a surfactant. It can be speculated, however, that the presence of polar poly(ethylene glycol) linkers enhanced the solubility of 2a in the aqueous phase: S. Varray, C. Gauzy, F. Lamaty, R. Lazaro, J. Martinez, J. Org. Chem. 2000, 65, 6787-6790.
