The Mn-catalysed system was found to be very active in the epoxidation of aliphatic terminal alkenes. Other alkenes such as styrene, 1,2- dihydronaphthalene, cyclooctene, 2-cyclohexen-1-one and 3,7-dimethyl-6-octanal showed no or little catalytic response under similar experimental conditions regardless of the presence of the MnII catalyst
