The molecular compounds involved are predominantly organic, although metalloenzymes and biominerals are widely investigated.     • In the context of assembly of complex matter, it is essential that the fundamental processes be extremely fast. The assembly of thermodynamically stable multimolecular aggregates requires sampling of innumerable possibilities in fluid media, and individual molecular recognition events that are unrestricted kinetically. Coordination chemical models for supramolecular phenomena need to meet this criterion.
