    • Annotates a large amount of assembled heterochromatic sequences in Drosophila melanogaster, showing that it is composed predominantly of degenerate transposable elements (>80%) with ∼250 protein coding genes. Notably, it shows that heterochromatic genes contain much longer introns on average than euchromatic genes, owing to frequent insertions of transposable elements, which also populate regulatory regions.
