    • Tesar BM, Goldstein DR. Acute allograft rejection occurs independently of inducible heat shock protein-70. Transplantation 2007; 83:1513-1517. This study found that HSP-70 is not sufficient for in-vitro activation of dendritic cells and is not associated with acute rejection in a murine skin allograft model.

J Biol Chem 2007; 282:18265-18275. This study described that the specific activation of TLR4 by LMW hyaluronan requires interaction between TLR4 and a specific accessory TLR signaling molecule, MD2. This interaction is augmented by but not dependent upon CD44.

    • Liang J, Jiang D, Griffith J, et al. CD44 is a negative regulator of acute pulmonary inflammation and lipopolysaccharide-TLR signaling in mouse macrophages. J Immunol 2007; 178:2469-2475. Liang et al. describe a novel immune 'gatekeeper' function for CD44 in response to LPS activation of TLR4. In the absence of CD44, fewer negative regulators of TLR signaling are expressed.
