Lautru S, Deeth RJ, Bailey LM, Challis GL: Discovery of a new peptide natural product by Streptomyces coelicolor genome mining. Nat Chem Biol (2005) 1(5):265-269. •• This paper reports the accurate prediction of amino acids incorporated into a novel natural product from sequence analysis of the adenylation domains within the NRPS that catalyzes its assembly. Heterologous expression experiments provide strong support for the hypothesis that a trimodular NRPS employs iterative module use and module skipping to assemble a tetrapeptide natural product.
