Scavenger receptor BI (SR-BI) clustered on microvillar extensions suggests that this plasma membrane domain is a way station for cholesterol trafficking between cells and high-density lipoprotein
-
Peng Y, Akmentin W, Connelly MA, et al. Scavenger receptor BI (SR-BI) clustered on microvillar extensions suggests that this plasma membrane domain is a way station for cholesterol trafficking between cells and high-density lipoprotein. Mol Biol Cell 2004; 15:384-396. This thorough study took a careful look at the localization of SR-BI in different cell types. It conclusively showed that SR-BI in not localized in significant amounts in caveolae as previously thought and offers a new view of the microdomains within the plasma membrane that SR-BI is found.

-
Gong M, Wilson M, Kelly T, et al. HDL-associated estradiol stimulates endothelial NO synthase and vasodilation in an SR-BI-dependent manner. J Clin Invest 2003; 111:1579-1587. This report provides a very interesting view of how HDL associated estradiol stimulates eNOS activity and how SR-BI might be involved in the increased protection against atherosclerosis in premenopausal women.
