    • note
    • Note we have investigated this shoulder peak in detail to show that it is due to long-range electron transfer to AQDS intercalated into the DNA duplex. That study will be described in more detail elsewhere, but in short, the shoulder peak did not appear if the interface was exposed to noncomplementary DNA and its magnitude was sensitive to single base pair mismatches, which serves as strong evidence for long-range electron transfer.
