    • Interleukin-23 rather than interleukin-12 is the critical cytokine for autoimmune inflammation of the brain
    • This study clearly describes a typical example of receptor-mediated redundancy associated with cytokine behavior. IL-23, which shares its p40 subunit with IL-12, has been found to be the critical factor in mediating autoimmune inflammation of the brain. The other important finding of this paper is that, unlike IL-12, IL-23 acts an end-stage effector cytokine and has direct activity on memory T cells.
