A key difficulty in calculating I-V characteristics is estimation of the Fermi level position relative to the molecular frontier orbitals. Typically, the Fermi level position is taken as a fitting parameter in comparisons of theoretical and experimental I-V characteristics. Recent theoretical work on molecular junctions is found in ref 7.
