In this 12 month study of 64 elderly in Stockholm, seasonal changes in serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D, parathyroid hormone, and ionized calcium, and a positive correlation between femoral neck bone mineral density and 25-hydroxyvitamin D indicate that regular outdoor daylight exposure during the summer could enhance calcium homeostasis and bone health among elderly living at northern latitudes.
