We checked the possibility that the observed contact between the hydrogen atom at the amino acid stereogenic centre and the acetyl hydrogen atoms might be an artefact due to scalar coupling-transfer through the NH signal; this spin diffusion interference is usually caused by the frequency of the transmitter. However, ROESY spectra recorded with a different transmitter frequency (original transmitter frequency: 5 ppm; modified transmitter frequencies: 6 ppm and 7 ppm) gave the same results. Thus, the observed contacts are real, and account for a certain percentage of cis-amide.
