    • Initial sequencing and analysis of the human genome
    • This paper reports the results of the public effort on human genome sequencing. A preliminary analysis of the predicted human proteome performed with a variety of computational techniques, with particular emphasis on the 'Interpro' collection of protein domains, is presented. The major conclusions are that human proteins consistently have more complex domain architectures compared to their homologs from other eukaryotes and domain rearrangements have a prominent role in eukaryotic evolution. Over 1300 apparent orthologs common to human, fly, worm and yeast have been identified

    • Comparative genomics of the eukaryotes
    • A comparative analysis of the predicted proteomes of three eukaryotes - yeast, worm and fly - that reveals unity and diversity of protein families and domain architecture of proteins in these organisms. Being the first attempt of such systematic comparative analysis, many of the conclusions need further refinement, but some of the approaches used in this study have general application in comparative genomics
