High expression levels of the B cell chemoattractant CXCL13 in rheumatoid synovium are a marker of severe disease

Ectopic lymphoid neogenesis is strongly associated with activation of the IL-23 pathway in rheumatoid synovitis
-
This study showed that IL-23 was highly expressed by RA synovial tissues with ectopic GCs. IL-23 expression also positively correlated with the expression of IL-21 as well as IL-17F and IL-22, suggesting the key role of IL-23 for T cell activation in synovial tissues in RA.

Interleukin-27 inhibits ectopic lymphoid-like structure development in early inflammatory arthritis
-
This study suggests that IL-27 inhibits the formation of ectopic GCs in inflamed tissues. In contrast to Ref. [36], this study showed that IL-27 expression in RA synovial tissues negatively correlated with T and B cell infiltration and ectopic GC formation.
