Pulmonary embolism in ischemic stroke: Clinical presentation, risk factors, and outcome

Because of limited information currently, this large cohort study evaluated the clinical characteristics, risk factors, and outcomes of PE in patients with acute ischemic stroke. It provides more evidence to show that this serious complication is associated with a higher risk of death and worse disability in stroke patients

Importance of T lymphocytes in brain injury, immunodeficiency, and recovery after cerebral ischemia
-
This novel and important review provides much information about the pathogenic role of Tcellss in ischemic stroke based on the current reports. More importantly, it indicates the actions of different T-cell subtypes in stroke-induced immunodeficiency syndrome and ischemic injury. All these are helpful in understanding the mechanism of stroke and planning clinical treatment

Insular stroke is associated with acute sympathetic hyperactivation and immunodepression
-
Walter et al. conducted a study in a subcohort of the Predictors of Early Chest Infection in Acute Ischemic Stroke trial and found that insular lesions were associated with immunodeficiency. Large infarctions (more than 33% of MCA area) and insular lesions caused infectious complications, especially chest infections. This evidence supports the idea that damage to a specific region in the brain is associated with stroke-induced infectious complications
