    • Comparison of synthetic routes to 8c is illustrative. A recent literature preparation (Arai, S.; Koike, Y.; Hada, H.; Nishida, A. J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2010, 132, 11824) reports a three-step sequence, including a key Pd/Cu catalysed cross-coupling, with an overall yield of 61%. By comparison, our method affords 8c in two steps, with an overall yield of 87% and without the use of transition metals
